Franklin University’s Center for Public Safety & Cybersecurity Education to Receive 2021 Central Ohio Social Justice Award

Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, is proud to announce its Center for Public Safety and Cybersecurity Education has been selected to receive an Education Advocacy Award as part of this year’s 2021 Central Ohio Social Justice Awards. The award will be provided during the annual Social Justice Awards ceremony  on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. (EDT),  at The Boathouse at Confluence Park.

The Social Justice Awards is an awards ceremony dedicated to honoring outstanding social justice leadership. Recipients are nominated by members of the community and those engaged in the social justice movement for their outstanding work and leadership.

Aligning with Central Ohio Social Justice Award’s mission, Franklin’s Center for Public Safety and Cybersecurity Education was created to address current and emerging needs in education and training and to promote greater awareness of issues that impact individuals and communities.  The center also operates as an innovation space where faculty members can work to advance their respective fields.

The Center for Public Safety and Cybersecurity Education (CPSCE) provides cross-disciplinary education and training that prepares professionals to effectively prevent, solve and investigate cybersecurity issues and challenges. The Center leverages its faculty – who are both thought leaders and practitioners – along with Franklin University’s reputation for excellence in curriculum and course development to create learning experiences that address prevailing security concerns within industries and communities.  In particular, the award is honoring multiple projects where the Center is an advocate for lifelong learning.  One project is with the Columbus Division of Police centered around Community Immersion.  Another project is focused on leadership training for law enforcement officers prior to promotion, Every Officer Is A Leader.

With this award, Franklin’s Dr. Jonathan McCombs, dean, College of Health and Public Administration reflects on the Center’s mission stating, “The creation of the Center is a culmination and a beginning. It is a culmination of collaborative work between public safety and cybersecurity faculty and it is a beginning of many opportunities to collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner while also looking at the future of cybersecurity and public safety education.”
