University Appoints First African-American Dean

Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, announced the appointment of Dr. Alyncia Bowen as dean of doctoral studies and the School of Nursing. As the dean, Dr. Bowen brings a vast array of academic and practical experience to her role. As a distinguished and dedicated leader, Dr. Bowen's appointment adds to the University's diversified leadership and will help position the University plan for and build upon the achieved and projected growth within the doctoral programs and School of Nursing.

Dr. Bowen has been a member of the Franklin University faculty for 14 years. During her time, she has served as department chair, director of doctoral studies and director of the Global Center for Healthcare Education. Prior to coming to Franklin Dr. Bowen served as an instructor for Mount Carmel College of Nursing where she taught and developed curriculum for their Healthcare Systems, Policy and Economics course. She has served as a guest lecturer on the topics of research and project management. In addition to serving in an education capacity, Dr. Bowen's healthcare experience includes more than 23 years in leadership and operations management positions. She enjoys presenting and shares her expertise on a variety of topics including: Developing and Sustaining a Community of Practice, Creating a Culture of Learning, Building, Developing and Implementing Best Practices in a Multi-generational Educational Environment, Cultural Competence, Transformational Teaching and Transnational Education. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for two Columbus, Ohio non-profit organizations.

Dr. Bowen holds a Ph.D. in organization and management from Capella University, a master's degree in health services administration from Central Michigan University, and a bachelor's degree from Capital University where she majored in sociology.
